The sea lamprey is a jawless cartilaginous fish with a suction-cup mouth ringed with sharp teeth. It's parasitic, surviving on the blood of its prey. The invasive species was introduced to the Great Lakes in the early 20th century via man-made canals & has become a major pest. pic.twitter.com/KdKuiXaWOX
That feeling when you fall asleep with your mouth open.
Sea lamprey feed on fish body fluids by using their drill-like tongues to rasp through scales and skin. To sweeten the deal, they secrete an enzyme that prevents blood from clotting.
Speaking of LOL check out this amazing photo of pacific lamprey attached to the viewing window at Bonneville Dam as they migrate up the Columbia River to breeding grounds! 📷 Brent Lawrence/USFWS pic.twitter.com/HlQmXQCaUu
